The Engagement Chicken by Diana Aydin

(New York)

“The Engagement Chicken” is a mockumentary that follows Deirdre, a rom-com obsessed romantic, on a quest to find love by cooking a legendary roast chicken recipe—a recipe so good that it’s said to cause men to propose to their girlfriends. The only problem? Deirdre doesn’t have a boyfriend and doesn’t know how to cook chicken. Will she ever find love?

Creative Bio:

Director and writer Diana Aydin is an award-winning comedy writer, improvisor and screenwriter who has trained at NYU, The Second City Film School, UCB and The PIT. “The Engagement Chicken” is her first short film and was shot in New York and Chicago on her iPhone. It was crewed completely by friends and family, including her Second City classmates—actors Norm Burt and Tip Sayarath and cinematographer Abby Keller—as well as her friends (playing themselves) and her mom (also making her filmmaking debut as a cinematographer and producer). Diana is a recent Sesame Workshop Writers Room fellow, and winner of The Second City’s Stuart Cornfeld Award and the Nickie’s Prize for Humor Writing. Her comedy is inspired by her kooky Syriac American family, her love of rom-coms and that one time she had brain surgery. She is currently at work on her next short film.
